ASD Simplified Technical English
In aviation, it is important to correctly understand maintenance and operation documentation to make sure that systems operate safely and correctly and to protect human lives. The Association of European Airlines (AEA) asked the European Association of Aerospace Industries (AECMA, now ASD www.asd-europe.org) to investigate the readability of maintenance documentation in the civil aviation industry and find a solution to simplify the language used to write such documentation.
The product of this effort was the AECMA Simplified English Guide (first release in 1986) which, in 2005, became the ASD Simplified Technical English Specification, ASD-STE100. Today, the success of STE is such that other industries use it for:
- The original intended purpose of aerospace maintenance documentation
- Language services
- Professional translation and interpreting
- Academic purposes

Logistic Product Data in IPS-process
SAE GEIA-STD-0007C defines logistics product data generated during the requirement definition and design of an industry or government system, end item, or product. It makes use of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) through the use of entities and attributes that comprise logistics product data and their definitions. The standard is designed to provide users with a uniform set of data tags for all or portions of logistics product data.
The standard can be applied to:
- Any industry or government product
- System or equipment acquisition program
- Major modification program
- Applicable research and development projects
Usage of the standard:
- By industry activities
- By government activities
The requiring authority is generally the customer and the customer can be a government or industry activity. The performing activity may be either industry or government activity. The use of the term “contract” in this standard includes any document of agreement between organizations.
